NaturallySpeaking Professional vs. the Legal and Medical Editions

The Legal and Medical Editions of NaturallySpeaking are composed of the Professional Edition of NaturallySpeaking with an enhanced Legal or Medical vocabulary.  The standard vocabulary of the Professional Edition contains a large number of medical and legal terminology but the statistical modeling of the recognizer is based on general english usage.  This means that (out of the box) the medical and legal terms are deemed to be "less likely" to be used and are therefor more likely to be misrecognized -- at first.

The Legal and Medical vocabularies contain additional technical terms and the underlying mathematical modeling is weighted for Legal or Medical dictation.  This means that the technical terms are deemed "more likely" to be used and are therefor less likely to be misrecognized "out of the box".

All three versions should become highly accurate (98-99.5%+) with usage but the Legal and Medical versions should provide higher initial accuracy rates on new voice profiles when dictating the respective technical terminology.

In addition, the Medical Edition comes with the following specialty vocabularies:
  • General Medical
  • Cardiology
  • Pathology
  • Radiology
  • Surgery
  • General Practice
  • Orthopaedic
  • ObGyn
  • Emergency
  • Gastroenterology
  • Mental Health
  • Neurology
  • Oncology
  • Pediatrics
Note: These medical specialties are available only with the US English base vocabulary.  They are not available with the alternate accent vocabularies such as Indian and S. E. Asian.
