Basic Commands Reference

Editing and Navigation commands in purple can be used in the Correction Dialog Box.

Critical
Microphone Off Turns off the microphone - same as clicking on the microphone icon.  Microphone can not be turned back on by voice, must use keyboard or mouse.
Important
Go to Sleep Puts the microphone into a "Sleeping" state.  The microphone will ignore anything except the "Wake Up" command.  Easily misrecognized as "grossly" or "ghostly".
Tip: Make sure to pronounce the "T" in "to", do not pronounce as "Goda Sleep".
Important
Wake Up Takes the Microphone out of the Sleeping State.  Reverses the "Go to Sleep" command.  
Tip: If the command has problems, try emphasizing the  "K" in "Wake" just a bit more than usual.

Starting and Changing Applications

Start application name Starts a Windows Program where application name is the name of a Windows Program exactly as listed in the Start or Programs menus.

Switch to Next Window Switches to the next running window, same effect as Alt-Tab.

Switch to Previous Window Switches back to the last accessed window, same effect as Alt-Shift-Tab.

Switch to window name Switches to the application listed on the task bar where window name is the name listed on the task bar.  May fail to operate correctly on some programs which do not adhere strictly to Microsoft programming standards.

Click Maximize Maximize the current window size.

Click Restore Restore the current window to the preset size.

Click Minimize Minimize the current window size.

button name or Click button name Activates the menu or form option spoken in place of button name.  NaturallySpeaking version 4 and below require the "Click" form of the command.

Go to Top [of Document] Move the cursor to the top of a document in applications which support "Control-Home" for Top of Document.

Available in the Spell Dialog Box Move Up/Down/Right/Left <1 to 20> Same as pressing an arrow key up to 20 times.

Limitations Select word or words Select the text read in place of  word or words. After the words are selected, replacement text can be dictated, or the selection can be formatted, copied, deleted, etc. (Restriction 1)

Limitations Correct word or words Opens the Correction Dialog Box with text read in place of  word or words. After correction, the cursor returns to its previous location.  This command generally much faster than "Select" followed by "Correct That". (Restriction 1)

Brings up the last utterance for correction.  The correction dialog box displayed will depend on the settings used in the Options Menu.

Select abc Through xyz Selects the text starting with the words read for abc and ending with the words read for xyz.

Available in the Spell Dialog Box Select Previous/Next Word/Character
Select the specified word or character.

Available in the Spell Dialog Box Select Previous/Next <2 to 20> Words/Characters
Select the specified number of words or characters.

Changed in version 8 Delete Previous/Next Word/Character Deletes the specified of word or character.  (No longer works in the Spell Dialog Box in Version 6.)

Changed in version 8 Delete Previous/Next <2 to 20> Words/Characters Delete the specified number of words or characters. (No longer works in the Spell Dialog Box in Version 6.)

Available in the Spell Dialog Box Cut/Copy That
Cuts or copies the selected text.

Copy All to Clipboard
Copies the entire document to the Windows Clipboard so that it can be pasted into another location.

Bold/Underline/Italicize That
Sets the current selection or the last utterance (if no text is selected) to Bold, Underline, or Italics.
Note: not available in all applications.

Set Font font name
Sets the current selection or the last utterance (if no text is selected) to the named font.  Example "Set Font Times New Roman"

This command only recognizes Arial and Times New Roman "out of the box" but additional fonts can be added by editing the command list in the Command Browser.
Note: not available in all applications.

Set Size font size
Sets the current selection or the last utterance (if no text is selected) to the named font size.  For Example: "Set Size 16"
Note: not available in all applications.

Set Font font name and size
Sets the current selection or the last utterance (if no text is selected) to the named font and size.  Example "Set Font Times New Roman 12"

Set Font Normal
Removes Bold, Underline, and/or Italics formatting from the current selection.
Note: DragonPad only

Removes Bold, Underline,  Italics and other formatting from the current selection.

Sets the current or selected paragraphs to Left, Centered, or Right alignment.

Cap That Capitalizes the first letter of each word in the last utterance. (dictation command)

Caps On/Caps Off Turns "first letter capitalization" on/off.

Section Sign Inserts "§" (dictation command)

Format That Spelled  Out
Takes a selected number and converts it into words.  For example, "1029" becomes "one thousand twenty nine".

Takes the selected number in spelled out words and converts it into a number.  For example, "one thousand twenty nine" become "1029".

Show Dictation Box
One of several Dictation Box commands. Brings up a special entry dialog screen where dictation can be performed with full NaturallySpeaking functionality.  When "OK" is voiced, the contents of the screen are pasted into the application that had the Windows Focus when the "Show Dialog Box" command was give.  Useful for dictating into applications where the usual NaturallySpeaking editing and correction commands work poorly or not at all.

Adds the selected text to the vocabulary as a phrase.  Selection can contain printable text only, no "Enter Keys", "Tabs" etc.

New in Version 8 Make (This | That) a Short Cut
Launches the New Command Wizard with the selected text inserted as a Text and Graphics Macro.  Add a Macro name and click "Save" to create a Custom Command to call up the selected text by voice.
